Saints head to Basehor for a record-setting Regional Final

Game 18, Regional Finals, Region 3 (7-9-2)
27 October at Basehor High School vs. Basehor-Lindwood at 5:30 (4-1)

The Saints set out today for their 31st regional soccer title in school history, their 21st straight. We were back on turf today as we visit the 6-seed, 11-5-1 Basehor-Lindwood, at their place on their 3-year old soccer field—it is nice!

Basehor gave us all we wanted in that first half. It was 1-1 at half, but we played just some great soccer for a 15 minute stretch in the second half where we exploded with 3 goals to create enough separation to get most everyone into the match.

Swags Just Before Backward Head-Flick Goal at Front Post

Swags got 2 more big goals tonight, but the build that lead up to Ethan’s finish is one I have to watch a few times tomorrow. It was just a great build with some good, quick passing, ending with Muck's final pass.

Drew Weisner came in to play 40 minutes of centerback second half. He was brilliant. In fact the defense did not allow a shot in the second half! That's a lot of guys playing well.

And Seger made just one heck of a snatch when the game was still 2-1, as the Bobcats had a front runner coming hard into the box off a weak back-pass to Andrew. Check it out!

The Bobcats, however, despite the final score, had to play as hard as any other team we have played against this year. How hard they went to the ball made a difference and held the score to a pretty reasonable level.

I have to give a shoutout to Zinkus for his high soccer IQ. He sacrificed himself with a late yellow card so that the Bobcats could not get off a quick deadball that would surely have been dangerous. He's a freshman!

With Sumner winning their bracket, we will play them in the State Quarters on Tuesday at Sumner, as BVSW hosts St. James.

Let's keep rolling.
