We travel to the defending state champs
Game 6 (4-0-2)
16 September at BVSW vs. BVSW at 6:30 (3-1)
Even though we had a few less in attendance than they did at Arrowhead, we offered up just a great match. It was just a state championship-like atmosphere for the match, and it felt important.
The match was 1-0 at halftime. We took at 2-0 led midway through the second half, but Southwest cut the score to 2-1 in virtually 20 seconds. But then we made it 3-1 a few minutes later. (Both sides questioned those final two tallies, but they did put both of them up on the scoreboard.)
From there we were able to add Weisner as a second "6" to help us ride out the match.
Overall though, we got a great team performance with so many different guys contributing. We also had a couple of our main guys account for all the goals. Barrett contributed two, with Ethan nabbing one.
For our first goal, Max Leiker quickly moved the ball wide to Janeway who slipped the ball to Barrett who created the PK (Check out the Build for the PK). For the second goal, Bjorseth’s long throw got Kitts the ball before he juked a couple of guys to finish the game-winning-goal. And then Bobby lifts it over the line to Young for the third goal.
The backline was very good again tonight with Welsh and Laws in the middle and Murray and Bjorseth wide. And the Southwest Coach gave Seger some major props after the match.
After our EKL tie on Tuesday, this match became a must-win. Both teams played extremely well in this highly entertaining match.
Next week we will travel to Miege on Tuesday and see Bishop Carroll, out of Wichita, on Thursday. And then, believe it or not, it is midseason.
Stats:
Saints
First Half: Shots: 4 (4) Corners: 2 (Kitts, Consuegra)
22:24 Kitts (Leiker finds Janeway wide whose pass pushes Kitts in the box where he gets taken down for a PK)
T-Wolves: Shots: 1 (1) Corners: 3
Second Half:
Saints: Shots: 7 (3) Corners: 3 (Bjorseth, Welsh, Weisner)
29:33 Kitts (Bobby's long throw pays dividends as Kitts picks it off the weak clear and takes it to goal)
23:43 Young (Bobby chips it over the defense as Ethan does a great job of coming back onside before the kick.)
T-Wolves: Shots: 2 (2) Corners: 2
29:22 Ibrahim (through ball to Baha who seems to hand it down to his foot for a deflected shot into the goal (defense quits here, screaming for a handball as Hammons reminds them not to ref the game, just play it.)
